Announcements - Attention LoCAR REALTORŪ Members, Lorain County Board of Revision Seeks Your Help

Posted on:

Lorain County Commissioner, Jeff Riddell, has reached out to the Lorain County Association of REALTORS® regarding the Lorain County Board of Revision.

“The Lorain County Board of Revision has acquired a lot of attention this year due to the inflation of home prices and the larger-than-expected increases in taxes that it created,”  states Commissioner Riddell.

He adds, “ While some people just object to the increase in dollars of taxes, the real issue is the house's market value. Law requires the Auditor to “assess” the value of homes every six years. Recent trends have seen hyperinflation due to material costs, labor shortages, labor costs, etc, raising new homes. This also pulls up existing home stock with it.”

The Lorain County Board of Revision is looking for qualified REALTORS® to lend their expertise and help with the process. REALTORS® who have participated in the past liked learning how the system of appraisal by the government works and the appeal process.

The Lorain County Board of Revisions currently hears 20 or so cases a day. There are still enough cases to go through July.  They need 10 or 12 more professionals to participate so the plan continues to succeed and does not burden anyone.

Commissioner Riddell explains, “Plus, this is an excellent opportunity to do good public service for the complainants by providing real street experience and to promote yourself  … while getting paid $200/day all at the same time.”
